Is the true value of public spaces in their quiet generosity?

I walked through our old town square yesterday, and it struck me how much it still offers without asking for anything in return. The shade trees, the benches, the open space for kids to run around – just simple things that make life a little better. It made me think that maybe the real value of public spaces isn't in flashy attractions or specific events, but in this quiet generosity, the unspoken permission to simply exist and be. What do you all think? Is it these subtle benefits that truly define their importance?
